What stays on your Mac

Your films, your folders and your library never leave your Mac. The microphone is used only during speaker calibration; the sound is measured on your Mac and is not recorded or sent anywhere.

The account (optional)

You can use CineRoom without an account. If you create one, you sign in with email and password, with Google or with Apple. We store your email address, your sign-in method and the nickname you choose. If you sign in with Apple, we keep the Apple token needed to revoke it when you delete the account.

What the account syncs

Signed in, your favorites, lists and watch progress are stored on our server so they match on all your Macs. They are removed when you delete the account.

Community and ratings

If you publish a list, its name, description, titles and your nickname are visible to everyone signed in to CineRoom. Likes, reports, blocks and your ratings (1 to 10) are stored with your account. Reports are reviewed by hand.

Film information

When “Look up films on the internet” is on, the title guessed from a file name (and the year, if any) is sent to our server, which returns data from Wikidata, Wikipedia and TVmaze and keeps a shared copy so the next person does not ask again. Descriptions are written by an AI service from public Wikipedia text; no personal information is sent to it. If you are signed in, your account token travels with the request, only so that we can limit abuse of the AI service per account. Turn the lookup off in Library, Film data, and nothing is sent.

Our server runs on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States and keeps the usual server logs, such as the time and IP address of a request.

Sites the app contacts directly

To show posters, photos of people and trailers, the app loads them straight from their hosts: OpenPosterDB, Wikimedia Commons, TVmaze, image servers of Russian film sites for the Russian interface, and YouTube or Rutube for trailers. These sites can see your IP address and, for trailers, may set cookies. Trailers load only when you open one.

Purchases

Payment is handled by Apple; we never see your card. To unlock Pro the app uses RevenueCat, which receives your purchase receipt and an app user ID (your CineRoom account ID if you are signed in, otherwise a random ID) and tells the app whether Pro is active.

No ads, no tracking

CineRoom has no advertising and no analytics of its own. We do not sell your information.

Your choices

You can turn off film lookups, sign out, and delete your account in the app (Account, Delete account). Deleting the account removes your profile, nickname, synced data, public lists, likes, reports and ratings from our server. Purchase records stay with Apple and RevenueCat as the law requires. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also write to us to see or erase your data.

Children

CineRoom is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date.
